Jackson Pollock - Art Gallery

Paul Jackson Pollock was born on the 28'Th of January, 1912, in Cody, a historical community located in northwest Wyoming, USA. In 1928 Pollock enrolled the Manual High School in Los Angeles. In 1930 he moved to New York and continued his art studies at the Art Students under the painter Thomas Hart Benton. He left the league early in 1933.
Pollock became institutionalized for months in 1938, caused suffering for nervous breakdown and alcoholism. After the treatment, Pollock's art became semiabstract, similar and influenced by artists as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miro and Jose Clemente Orozco. In 1943 he held his first solo exhibition at Peggy Guggenheim's gallery - Art of this Century - in New York. At this time the artists Lee Krasner start handling Pollock's affair with Guggenheim and in 1945 Pollock marries Lee Krasner.
In 1947 Jackson Pollock starts using the technique of dripping the painting onto the canvas, and processing the work by alternating between painting and studying until he considered the painting to be finished. During the next years he created a whole series of paintings within this genre, beginning with the "Full Fathom Five" and the "Lucifer" both from 1947, than the "Summertime" painted in 1948, the "Number Ten" painted in 1949, and many more, which an extract of is displayed in this gallery.
Jackson Pollock died on the 11'Th of August, 1956, in East Hampton in New York. Jackson Pollock is considered as a leading representative of Abstract Expressionism.
