John William Waterhouse was born in Rome on the 6'Th of April, 1849. His parents were both English painters, with residential in Italy. The family moved back to England in the end of the 18-fifties. Waterhouse was trained at the Royal Academy Schools. He became an associated member in 1885, and in 1995 he became a full member of the Royal Academician.
John William Waterhouse is regarded as a truly Neo Classic painter. His early painting was in a manner close to Alma-Tedema's, by producing ancient genre scenes. He became influenced of the Pre-Raphaelitism, -painting outstanding example of dreamy, sensual subjects as "The Lady Charlotte" in 1888, and the "Hylas and the Nymphs" in 1896. John William Waterhouse died on the 10'Th of February, 1917.
