Andy Warhol is to be considered as one of the leading icons of the American Pop Art movement. His artificial skills deal with painting, printmaking, illustrations, sculptures and film making. Andy Warhola was born on the 6'Th of August 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In September 1941, he entered Schenley High School in Pittsburgh, where he graduated from in 1945. He than obtained a place at the Carnegie Institute of Technology, concerning Pictorial Design. The academic standard at Carnegie Tech was rather extremely high, quite influenced by the "German Bauhaus". Among the artists who influenced on Warhol's stylistic development at that time, we find Paul Klee, Marcel Duchamp and Salvador Dali. Warhol moved to the New York City after graduating from Carnegie Tech with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in June 1949. Soon after his entry to NYC, his artist name changes from Warhola to Warhol.
In the 1950's Warhol became on of the most popular commercial illustrators in NYC. By the end of the decade he starts to paint. In November 1962 he took the world by storm as his Stable Gallery show, a debut exhibition in NYC as Fine Art Artist, almost sold out every work exhibited. Among the works which were displayed we find the "Gold Marilyn", "Red Elvis", several "Coca Cola Bottle" and "Soup Can" pictures. The coming years of the 1960's should be his most glamorous time as an artist, and we find most of his famous art from this period. However, he achieved recognition and publicity by the series as "Chairman Mao" and "Shadows" in the 1970's and "Dollar Signs" and "Goethe" in the 1980's. While recovering from a gall-bladder operation at the New York Hospital, the artist Andy Warhol died on Sunday the 22'nd of February 1987, only 58 years old.
