William Turner - Art GalleryJoseph Mallord William Turner was born on the 23'rd of April 1775 in London. William Turner is to be considered as one of the masters of art in the 19'Th century. He was not only an exceptional romantic painter, but he was also a forerunner of the early impressionism; -a pre-impressionist. The artist achieved recognition already in a young age. His oil land- and seascapes paintings are well known, but Turner is also to be considered as the father of the English water color landscape painting. In an age of 44 the artist traveled to Italy, a travel which made a radical change to Turners painting style. His oil paintings changed towards lesser interest in the figurative representation, leading to his late emphasis on the power and effects by focusing on a free flowing expression by color and light representation. William Turner died on the 19'Th of December 1851, and was buried in St. Paul's Cathedral, at his wish. The artist left a considerable fortune which he bequeathed his country and that he wanted to be used to support what he called the decaying artists. |
