Pierre-Auguste Renoir was born on the 25'Th of February in 1841 in Limoges in France. Renoir is to be considered as one of the great French masters of the impressionism. In his early phase Renoir's art was into the classicism. Although classicisme had been very progressive in its days, it turned out to be rather a hindrance for further development for a while. In 1863 Renoir takes up open-air painting together with Claude Monet, Alfred Sisley and Fredric Bazille, and later that year he meets Camille Pizarro and Paul Cezanne. The young painters were struggling hard to find their new artistic principles. They often met on a café in the Grande rue de Batignolles, where they often had quite heated discussions, and the young artists soon becomes known as the Painters of Batignolles. Between 1872 and 1883, often called the "Great Decade of Impressionism", Renoir was at the height of skill as an artist. These were the years when the most mature works of French Impressionism were created, and Renoir developed the full magic of his art. In 1919 Pierre-Auguste Renoir died on the 3'rd of December in Cagnes, France.
