Paul Gauguin - Art GalleryPaul Gauguin was born the 7'Th of June 1848 in Paris. Gauguin is to be considered as one of the leading French post-impressionist painter. Paul Gauguin did not have a former education in art, but was a successful Parisian stockbroker. However, after meeting the artist Camille Pissarro in 1874 and viewing the first impressionist exhibitiontartes, he became a collector and amateur painter, and sd to exhibit his own works with the impressionists in 1876. In 1883 Gauguin gave up his secure life and devoted the rest of his life to painting. During the autumn of 1888 he spent a short period with Vincent van Gogh in Arles. Later Gauguin adapted a less naturalistic style, which he called synthetism. In 1891 Paul Gauguin left France and settled down and lived the rest of his life on the French Polynesian Marquesas Island. Paul Gauguin died the 8'Th of May 1903. |
